I must begin with a little confession … you see, I have normally been so busy between when I last put paw to keyboard and my latest missive, but I have to confess that I haven’t really done much. I’m still very much on bed rest. Well, it should be crate rest, but I’m having none of that! Instead I am confined to the lounge. I only get to go outside to go to the toilet. It isn’t very dognified to have to go to the loo with some human attached to the other end of the lead! That said, there have been one or two events! I guess I ought to explain that I invented a new game but, as usual, it hasn’t gone down that well. You see he is sleeping downstairs in the lounge with me whilst I can’t go upstairs. I suppose that’s good of him because I don’t like sleeping on my own, but it did give me an idea for a new game. Richard often leaves his glasses downstairs when he goes to bed – well, that’s an opportunity if ever there was one! I seem to have been waking up at around 4 o’clock in the morning … when I wake up, I go and look for Richard’s glasses and, if he has left them there, I pick them up and then go and shove them straight in Alex’s face. It is great fun, but I laugh my paws off when he wakes up all grumpy because it is 4 o’clock in the morning and he has a pair of glasses up his nose! ???? If I wake up again at 5 o’clock, which I often do, I go and give his face a wash – for some reason that doesn’t seem to go down that well either! Mind you, you know what he’s like!

After my last blog I had a lovely message from my friends at Hydro Hounds. That’s where I go for my personal therapists to help me. I will be going back there in a few weeks time for a bit of love, care and attention! Talking of the future, I am hopeful that I will not have to wear that flamin’ lampshade much longer! It is very irritating and gets in the way of some of my best games – I love pinching the remote control but every time I try the flamin’ cone pushes it out of the way! Anyway, back to ‘post operative life’ … that’s a pretty posh way of saying it! Wednesday was a fairly quite day. Simon had to go off and do another job, so there wasn’t much activity at all in the kitchen. He was back on Thursday and that was his last day! He will be back at some point, but only has a couple of bits to do in the utility room! On Friday Dave the electrician was back. He didn’t have too much to do and didn’t make any mess. All very satisfactory, I thought.

Actually, Friday was an interesting day. Dave and Bertie were here doing electrical things and Alex decided that he would try and clean the kitchen and get rid of all the dust. I decided that I was going to be very brave and I let him leave the lounge and go and work in the kitchen. It took him about 4 hours to clean all the dust up and get it clean! I didn’t mind though because every now and then he came back to the lounge and sometimes I got a treat for being so brave, which was nice! I don’t really know what was going on, but he had to go out to sign some papers to do with the sale of the French house. He seemed to get pretty stressed about arranging a courier to get them to France – I’m not sure what was going on, but it got sorted and I decided to stay in my brave mode and keep out of the way.

On Friday afternoon Alex’s mum came to stay. She’s lovely – how on earth did she end up with him? Anyway, would you believe it, no sooner had she arrived they went off out! Zena popped in and gave me my dinner and took me outside for a wee, but I spent most of the evening with Megan (Alex’s mum) until Zena and Simon arrived quite late and Megan went to bed. It turns out that they went to London to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child which was something that he booked over a year ago! Apparently London is quite a big place, but I don’t plan on going there anytime soon. They said that the play was amazing but they didn’t tell me anything about it because apparently they have to #keepthesecrets – whatever that means! Saturday was quite a quiet day but the heat had begun to build. I was quite happy to not do too much because it was getting pretty warm.

Sunday was another day of them taking advantage of my incapacity. They all went off to the Edenbridge and Oxted Show. Actually, it wasn’t so bad because Richard’s mum and dad, Peggy and John came over to look after me. I really like them both and, particularly, John. I did another day of being very brave and very quiet. Everyone seems really impressed with how brave and calm I am, so I’m going to keep it up for a while. When they got back he cooked dinner but it seemed like it was very late before he served it. Anyway, they all seemed to like it but I didn’t get anything so I wasn’t all that impressed. I have to stay in the lounge whilst they eat dinner at the moment which is a bit frustrating but I’m getting used to it. I played another game of poke Alex in the face in the middle of the night during the night on Sunday and it went down just as badly as it had done before. I guess I’m going to have to give that game up soon! He always spoils my games!

Today has been another day when clearly they have been doing other things. I have spent much of it at home with Megan, although I have had periods of time with Richard and him. It is flamin’ hot! Apparently it was the village fete and they were both tied up on two different stalls. Richard was on the Neighbourhood Plan stall and he was splitting his time between the Neighbourhood Plan and the Godstone Village Association. Now, I know I have alluded to this in the past, but he really isn’t all that bright … he’s one husky short of a full pack, if you get my meaning! It only turns out that Amanda from Happy Buddies was there! I mean, he didn’t even remember! I can’t go down to the fete because of my new hip, but he could have at least remembered she would be there and told me! She did send me a big hug and a cuddle though, so I suppose he did do something right in the end. Anyway, all this talk of activity is making me tired. I just thought my fans (over 1,000 now in 17 countries!) might like to know what has been going on recently. I am on the mend, but with a lampshade stuck around my neck and a shaved bum, I’m hardly looking at my best! I’m guessing it is going to take a while but, apart from the fact that I am now getting very bored with not being able to go out, I think it isn’t too bad. He says he can’t wait to go back to bed rather than sleep downstairs but, until he does, I’m going to keep up my nocturnal games just because I know it irritates him. I don’t get much other fun at the moment and irritating him is always good fun! Just wait ’till I’m properly mended, I’m gonna give him hell!! For now though, must paws … ????
