Hello Everyone

A walk on Tilburstow Hill
Off for a walk on Tilburstow Hill after my visit to the vets.

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. If you haven’t already worked it out (and if that is the case, you are probably on the wrong website!) my name is Monty. I was adopted just last Saturday from the Dog’s Trust by my new family Richard and Alex. I am settling into my new home just fine. I have met new friends already, Sue and Malcolm came to meet me, Zena and Simon have met me (twice already!) and Fran and Iain have been and met me. Bren and Cathy are in Costa Rica at the moment, so they can’t meet me in person, but I did get an email from Bren giving me some very good advice about my new family!

Pulling on the lead
Pulling hard on my lead – I am going to learn not to do this soon!

Today has been a bit of a day so far. I got up this morning and took Richard one of Alex’s shoes so that he would get up too. Richard got up and took me for a nice walk which was really good. Then he went off to work and Alex gave me my breakfast. When I’d finished breakfast he gave me some ham which he wrapped my tablets in – he thinks I don’t know that, but I do! Actually, I dropped one of the tablets on the floor and I just ate it anyway – he doesn’t need to try and disguise them in the ham, but I’m not going to tell him that!

So, my day started well, but then it went a bit downhill. Alex put my lead on and   I thought we were going for a walk, but when we got outside he opened the boot of the car and lifted me into it. I hate the car – it always means I’m going somewhere I would rather not be. Usually it involves getting my very sore hips being prodded by some vet or another. This morning was no exception! Having bundled me into the back of the car, where did we end up? The vet!

Sniffing a tree
I found some lovely dirty water in this tree!

Actually, he was a really nice vet. He was very gentle with me and he didn’t prod my hips too much. He did give me an injection though, but that means that in three week’s time I will have my very own passport, so I didn’t make a fuss. I wasn’t too keen on being weighed though – I mean, a man can be quite sensitive about his weight! Actually, though, I was 27kg which is not too bad. The vet very much wants me to stay at this weight and not gain any because it would be bad for my hips.

Licking my lips
Licking my lips after a drink from the dirty water between the roots of this tree!

Having been put back in the car (I really do hate getting into it) we didn’t go straight home. Alex took me to Tilburstow Hill and we went for a really good walk. I was allowed to sniff whatever I wanted which was very nice. Actually though, I say it was a walk, if I’m honest it was more of a pull. ? Although my hips are bad, I pull really hard on my lead and sometimes I try to get a bit faster than whoever is walking me wants to! I will start training tomorrow, though, and I think I am going to be taught not to pull quite as much as I do.

Having a sniff
I got to sniff everything I wanted (I think Alex felt guilty about the visit to the vets)

If you are looking at the photos (I’m a handsome chap, aren’t I?!) then you may notice that I still have my Dog’s Trust harness on. My new one is arriving today, which is very exciting! Actually, most things are exciting, that’s why I want to rush around and see them. That said, all this blogging is a bit tiring, so I think I shall go and have a little lie down and a snooze and dream of all things doggy. As they say in Costa Rica, ‘Adios amigos, hasta pronto’, goodbye my friends, see you soon! Must paws!

Well done Monty. We loved your blog and do you know if we were you we would keep it going and one day turn it into a book for small children. I think that they would absolutely love it! Yours is going to be such a nice story to tell and should be full of happiness, especially when your hips are sorted. You could not have gone to a better home as Alex and Richard are lovely and they will take great care of you and even take you to France when you have your passport.
Lots of cuddles from Fran and Iain
