Frankly, it’s all been happening!

This is me outside our holiday cottage in Dorset

Since I last put paw to keyboard it’s all been happening. I guess the most exciting thing is that I’ve been on me ‘olidays again. I kind of got a hint that something was going on when there were loads of phone calls between Daddy Richard and Nana and Grandad. It turned out that they came on our ‘olidays too. Actually, that was one of the best bits, I got to spend quality time with Grandad. You see, they went out with Nana and I got to stay at home with Grandad. He’s great! He doesn’t moan at me, he doesn’t tell me off, he doesn’t make me do what I don’t want to do, he just let’s me sit with him and push out a few 💤s! I suppose I should start from the beginning. You see, it was Saturday morning and Nana and Grandad arrived at home. They had bags with them which is a bit unusual so I knew something was going on. He made soup for lunch which is usually a sign that they’re planning something so they have soup for lunch because it is quick. He started loading things into a box on top of the car thingy and had a sense of humour failure because he was running out of room. Apparently one of the hinges on the box thing had broken too which made it difficult to hold the lid up. Honestly, the fuss he makes!

I made myself at home in our holiday cottage. It was pretty comfortable!

I could easily have helped him sort it out anyway. If he didn’t insist on taking half the kitchen with him there’d be loads of room. I am not joking, he took three saucepans, a sauté pan, knives, a chopping board, a cordless blender and goodness only knows what else! The car thingy was packed!! Even Daddy Richard had to travel with a lasagne under his feet. (That was for dinner for them when we got there!) Eventually we all got in the car thingy and left. I didn’t have that much room in the boot of the car thingy because I was sharing it with a box with all my food and treats in it but it was actually quite comfortable. I decided to spend a bit of time inspecting the inside of my eyelids which was nice. I had a luvely dream about squirrels! It took quite a bit of time to get there. We went past this funny thing called ‘Stonehenge’ – I’ve looked it up on Fidopedia and it’s really old. It makes Uncle Don sound positively young! Eventually we arrived in a place called Buckland Newton which is in somewhere called Dorset. They quickly unloaded the car thingy and then we settled in to our holiday cottage. The lasagne that was under Daddy Richard’s feet on the journey was put in the oven and they all settled in with some incahol. He eventually found out how to turn the heating on and everyone was happy.

I could do what I liked in the lane where we were staying.

There was one feature of our holiday that I will always remember – it was very wet! It seemed to rain … permanently. When we got up on our first morning they decided we should go for a walk up the lane. That was quite nice because I didn’t need my lead. The lane only had three houses in it and there was no reason to use it otherwise, so there was only about one car a day going past the house. I could basically do what I liked up the lane, so that was nice. Mind you, when I found my way into the local stream you should have heard him. I mean, the language – it was enough to make a Rottweiler blush! When we got back to the cottage I got unceremoniously hosed down and then dried off with some old towels they had taken with us. Actually towels featured quite a lot during the holiday. It appears that it rains a lot in Buckland Newton! When we took a little walk to the village shop (which turned out to be about 1½ miles away) it wasn’t raining too much but by the time we got back they had to dry me off and then they had to change every stitch of clothing they had on!! They were properly soggy!!!

After our visit to Blandford Forum I decided that I had better behave for a while!

We went out every day when we were on our ‘olidays. One of the best was when we went to Crewkerne. We went on our ‘olidays there earlier this year, so I knew my way around and was able to show Grandad and Nana around. It didn’t go quite as well when we went to Blandford Forum. I mean, I was so excited! I pulled and pulled as we explored the town. I got into so much twubble it is untrue! He claimed it was dangerous because I was pulling so much and I could end up pulling in front of a car or dragging him into the path of a car. Grandad was quite a way ahead and kept calling back “Good boy, Monty!”. That didn’t go down very well either. I was trying to get to Grandad because he’s always nice to me and was telling me what a good boy I was but he wasn’t moving fast enough and then he had a proper sense of humour failure! He stopped altogether and really told me off. I mean, I know I shouldn’t pull, but it was all very exciting and I couldn’t help myself. After my telling off though, I did come to the conclusion that trying to drag him all around the town wasn’t the best thing for his blood pressure or for my ease of life, so I decided not to pull anymore. That seemed to make life a lot easier for all of us.

It was, unsurprisingly, wet on our last morning!

As the holiday came to a close I got one last walk up the lane before we left. It was very nice but, unsurprisingly, wet. We were all packed up and ready to leave so after my walk we all got in the car thingy and started our journey home. I was just as comfortable on the way home, especially as I was able to cuddle my new toy, Cyril Squirrel. I got Cyril Squirrel shortly after we arrived when he realised that he had forgotten to bring my toys with us. Typical! He remembered the flamin’ portable blender, but not my toys!! Anyway, he lost out because he had to buy me a new toy. I rather like Cyril Squirrel because he squeaks in several different places which I can confirm he finds particularly irritating if I manage to do it when he is trying to watch something on the telly or in one of his endless Zoom meetings! We made the journey back in good time and, whilst I did have a lovely time on me ‘oliday, it was nice to get home. We had a luvely walk up Green Lane after getting home and I was able to pick up my p-mail, of which there was quite a lot!

He didn’t even notice when I stuck my tongue out at him!

Last Sunday it was Auntie Sue’s (that’s Eric’s Mum) 60th birthday. They went to her party but I stayed at home to look after the house. That said, twice in the afternoon Eric’s dog sitters popped in and we went for a walk. Eric was there too so I had someone to play with. Apparently, they had a good time which I suppose is good. This last week has been a bit quieter. He has been working really late – something to do with catching up, whatever that is. On Thursday evening he also went to a village meeting where he is, apparently, Chairman. They must have been pretty desperate to end up with him as Chairman. Anyway, apparently he is giving it up because it takes too much time and he has done eight years so he thinks it is time for someone else to take over. Frankly, I am sure they can get someone much better to do whatever it is he does! I’m not sure, but it might even mean I get a bit more ‘me time’ with him. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I know he’s always moaning and he’s always telling me off but they’re all I’ve got, so I guess I should make the most of it. Today, Daddy Richard went for a short snooze for a couple of hours, so I spent the afternoon with him. I spent most of the time snoozing myself, but I had to laugh when he didn’t even notice I was sticking my tongue out at him! Anyway, all this remembering is hurting my brain and I’ve got paw ache from all this typing so, for now, must paws … 🐾

Although it was very rude Monty, I did burst out laughing when you mentioned that Stonehenge was even older than me. 🙀 xx
