I flamin’ knew they were up to something!

I love my Country Retreat – I’m just enjoying the sunset here!

I knew they were up to something! As soon as we went out for a second walk last Saturday afternoon I knew that something wasn’t quite right. What happened? We got back from quite a pleasant walk up Bay Pond Path and I was piled unceremoniously into the car thingy. I knew I couldn’t trust him but Daddy Richard too. I was very disappointed in him! Generally speaking, I have learned that if we go out for a walk and then immediately afterwards we go out in the car thingy it isn’t going to go well. I usually get prodded or stretched or poked in the most uncomfortable of places, or worse, get some flamin’ needle stuck in me! As it turned out, however, it wasn’t that bad but it proved my theory that they were up to something. It turned out they were giving me a lift to my Country Retreat. Now, don’t get me wrong, I like my Country Retreat very much. I have an Executive Suite there. I am met by my personal concierge who escorts me directly to my Executive Suite. I am very well cared for whilst I am there with two good meals a day and I get to go for nice long walks in the country too. But when they’re giving me a lift to my Country Retreat, it definitely means they’re up to something. Well, only turns out that they were going to this place called ‘India’. I mean, I’m not even sure where that is. I’ve tried Doogling it, but it is a very long way away! Mind you, I reckon I’ve got it cracked now – he does all that ‘cooking’ stuff he’s so rubbish at because he needs to learn what the locals like. I guess he needs all the practice he can get because from what I can gather there are almost 1.3 billion people living there … and that’s definitely more than Godstone! Apparently there are over 30 million dogs living there too, so that’s quite a few mouths to feed!

I’ve been mulling it all over at my Country Retreat. I’m sure it’s all nonsense and they’ve just gone on ‘Oliday without me! Not that I want to go to India anyway – all that spicy food plays havoc with the digestive system!

I’ll you something else too. His stories are getting more and more elaborate by the minute. You won’t believe this but he claimed he was actually working!! I know! How can he possible expect me to believe that? I mean, it’s one thing when he claims he’s working here or goes off to Amsterdam for a little holiday that he claims is work, but India? Talk about far fetched! He claimed he was speaking at a conference. Yeah right! Does he really think I was born yesterday? (Actually it was three years and 19 days ago to be precise!) OK, so I’ve looked it up and yes, there was a conference in Delhi last week called ‘DataCloud India’ and yes, there was some bloke talking there that shares his name. But the photograph was of someone much younger than him and even if it was true, why did Daddy Richard go with him? It’s all a pack of lies! I reckon they just went on their ‘Olidays without me and are too embarrassed to admit it! Now, I will admit that I had a rather good time at my Country Retreat and I went on a couple of romantic evening walks with my concierge, Freya. But I did miss them a bit. Don’t let them know that! I played it really cool when they finally turned up this morning to give me a lift home. Ok, so I did wag my tail … quite a lot actually. Oh, and I did jump up and down … quite a lot actually. I did pant … quite a lot actually. Oh, and I did grin … quite a lot actually. Oh, and I couldn’t keep myself from rubbing against them … quite a lot actually. Oh, and I did almost rip his arm off trying to get him back to the car thingy so that we could go home. Oh, and when we got home I did run around the house checking that everything was the same … quite a bit actually. Oh, and I did run around the garden checking everything was right … quite a bit actually. But I think I got away with it … I don’t think they noticed!

There are 30 million street dogs in India. Many are well cared for with food, water and bedding laid out for them by members of the public!

He took this picture whilst they were in India. I’d be jealous but these doggies don’t have proper homes. They are called ‘Pariah Dogs’ but that isn’t because they are ‘Pariahs’ in the way in which we understand it. They are certainly not social outcasts, in fact they are the opposite. They live on the streets in packs and are actually very social dogs. In India it is illegal to kill a ‘Pariah Dog’ and many people lay out food, water and bedding for them to sleep on. They are not tame though and, whilst they rarely attack anyone, India has the highest proportion of rabies in dogs than anywhere else in the world. Rabies is a dreadful disease. Furious rabies occurs when the rabid dog becomes highly excitable and displays evidence of a depraved appetite, eating and chewing stones, earth and rubbish. Paralysis eventually sets in and the rabid animal may be unable to eat and drink. Rabies almost always ends in death. Humans can catch rabies from an infected dog through a scratch or bite and the virus attacks the central nervous system causing progressive damage to the brain and spinal cord. Once symptoms are present, rabies is almost always fatal. I don’t think even he would take the risk of catching rabies, so whilst I am not happy that he’s looking at other dogs, I am OK with him looking at these ones. They are quite handsome although evidently nowhere near as handsome as me! I am, after all, the handsomest dog in dogdom!

I haven’t been here for over a week. There’s a huge amount to take in!!

So, there we have it. They’re back. They’ve waltzed in as if nothing had happened. Not so much as an “I’m sorry we left you” or “We’ve missed you”, nothing! I suppose they think that just because I was cool and didn’t let them know I’d missed them, that they can do the same. Well they can’t! I want lots of love and attention and I want it now! We went for a walk up Bay Pond Path earlier and I practically had to drag him there. It wasn’t just that too, when we did finally get there he seemed surprised that I had a lot of messages to sniff. I haven’t been there for over a week, what did he expect? Daddy Richard was the sensible one too, he had an umbrella because it was raining. What did he have? A hat! I ask you. I mean, I already knew he was at the back of the queue when they were dishing brains out but sometimes I wonder if he actually turned up at all! It was raining with that horrible fine rain that makes you soaking wet even when you don’t think you’ve been out in the rain much. In any event, I wasn’t going to be rushed. I’ve waited a long time to pick up these messages!

Oh come on man! I have messages to sniff and huge poos to do!

Now, would you believe, he’s feigning tiredness! I mean, I’m the one who’s been away all week. They’ve just been to India. From what I can see there isn’t much to that. Basically, they sat on an aeroplane at 1.30 in the afternoon, flew for 7 hours to this place called Dubai where it was already midnight, got off, went to a lounge were they sat and had a drink, got on another aeroplane at 3 o’clock in the morning and flew for another 3 hours to arrive at 9 o’clock in the morning. Alright, so Delhi was 5½ hours ahead of here. That means they got to go to sleep earlier than we did. They claim that they didn’t sleep on the aeroplane, so they were up all night. So what? They had a week to get over it! Now they’re both moaning (although Daddy Richard has been very quiet for quite a while now – has he sneaked off for a lay down?) that they’re tired again. Some rubbish about how they left Delhi at 9.30pm yesterday, flew 4 hours to Dubai where it was midnight, then had a 2 hour wait before getting on another plane and flying through the night to arrive back here at 6.30 this morning. This time it’s some lame excuse about some child screaming for the entire journey. Honestly, the things they come out with! I can see I’m going to have to have a woof with him again. These stories are getting just a bit too much! No time like the present so, for now, must paws … ????
