Run around around around

Why does he insist on taking photographs of my shaved bum? It is hardly my best side for the handsomest dog in dogdom!

Dear oh dear, what a week I’ve had! As usual there have been ups and there have been downs. The weather has been a bit up and down too. There have been some properly cold mornings (and days) and the weather for the weekend is properly horrible. Fortunately, I took them out relatively early this morning and avoided the wet and blustery weather of this afternoon. Back to that a in a bit. Mind you, that’s if I ever get there! This new interface called ‘Gutenberg’ makes putting paw to keyboard very difficult indeed. I was surfing the interweb the other day and I saw something on Poochtome about them bringing back the ‘classic’ interface as a plug-in. Honestly, how is a dog supposed to keep up with his Glog with all these changes?! Anyway, enough about that, what about me? Ah yes, well let me start with last Sunday. He spent most of the morning in his study. He claimed he was working on something called a ‘Neighbourhood Plan’, whatever that is. I had to make up my own entertainment. I invented a new game – it’s called ‘Arm’. He hates it!!! That, in my opinion, makes it an even better game. It’s a really simple game, but all the best ones are. What you do is creep up behind him whilst he’s tapping on the keyboard (obviously he isn’t anywhere near as good or as quick on a keyboard as I am!) and, just when he’s at a critical point in the document you nudge his arm with your nose and knock it off the keyboard. He gets really cross … particularly if you keep doing it at irregular intervals so that he thinks you’ve stopped and then you do it again!

Oh for goodness sake man, get a grip! I know it's cold but you haven't got a shaved bum!

On Sunday afternoon we all got in the car thingy and went to Nana and Grandad’s house. As visits to Nana and Grandad go, this was not one of my best! It wasn’t my fault!!!! When we got there I wanted to go outside but I tried barking at him and he wouldn’t let me out. Then I tried barking at Daddy Richard but he wouldn’t let me out. Then I tried barking at Grandad and he wouldn’t let me out either. Finally I decided to try Nana but she almost fell over me when I made her jump, so that didn’t work either. I found myself getting into twubble again. Since I wasn’t allowed out, I decided to have a little sniff around. That led to some very quick Googling (Google, as everyone knows, is the vastly inferior search engine to Doogle in the doggy world) when I found the fruit bowl had been hidden – clearly not very well – under a table and I decided to see what a pear tastes like. Yet again, more twubble! Apparently eating the fruit is not bad for me but the seeds contain traces of cyanide which is pretty poisonous for dogs. It didn’t do me any harm apart from getting me into twubble again. I think they must have changed their minds because the next time I barked to go out he almost leapt up to let me out.

This didn’t go as well as I’d hoped – 10 seconds later I fell of the edge of the sofa!

Eventually Nana started putting food out … loads of it! Well, you can imagine what that was like. They weren’t offering me a thing and I need to let them know, so I barked and barked! I got into even more twubble then. Nana was telling me off, Daddy Richard was telling me off, Grandad was telling me off and I thought he was going to burst a blood vessel! In the end they ate their dinner and then we all got back in the car thingy and went home. I knew I was in twubble!! When we got home we went for a quick walk around the block and then I settled down on the sofa. I did ask for a tummy rub but other than that (which didn’t go well because as I rolled around I fell off the edge of the sofa) I kept my head down. I rather decided that I’d been in enough twubble for one day so I decided that it would probably be better if I didn’t play any more games for a while so I lay down on the sofa and pushed out a few ????s instead.

For goodness sake man! I’ve got a shaved bum and it’s flamin’ cold out here!

On Monday he spent the whole day … and I mean the whole day … writing his flamin’ document in his study. We went for our morning walk but then when he went into his study he didn’t come out again all flamin’ day! I went for my lunchtime walk with Daddy Richard and left him to his document. I’ll tell you, I couldn’t believe my eyes when he finally emerged from his study in the evening and then he went straight out to a ‘meeting’. When he eventually came home at nearly 10 o’clock in the evening, it was the first time all day I had had any attention. I suppose, to be fair (not that I want to be), he was trying to make up for the lack of attention he had given me all day but by that time I was so bushed I didn’t have the energy for all that fuss, so I left him to it and got on the sofa to push out a few more ????s. It wasn’t until Tuesday morning that I got proper attention and, even then, he didn’t seem to have a clue about my needs. It was freezing cold when we went out for a walk and he seemed to completely forget that I’ve got a shaved bum and dawdled all the way along Oxted Road and Church Lane and I had to practically drag him down Bay Pond Path until he let me off the lead.

I don’t see what I’ve done wrong. I didn’t hide these glasses, I took them into the kitchen to show how clever I am!

On Thursday Auntie Zena came to help them both make Christmas decorations to decorate a Christmas tree in the church. I got hardly any attention at all. I got a little bit of the wrong kind of attention when I demonstrated one of my newest games to Auntie Zena. The game, which I have only invented recently, involves barking to go outside and then picking up a stone and slinging it at the window until they get really cross. It didn’t take very long at all for them to get cross and even Auntie Zena told me off. Since I wasn’t allowed to play my sling it at the window game, I had a look around to see what else was around. After a careful bit of manoeuvring I managed to get hold of a pair of Daddy Richard’s glasses. That didn’t seem to go down all that well either. I don’t know why … it isn’t as if I had hidden them, in fact I walked into the kitchen wagging my tail to show how clever I am! Sometimes I really do find humans quite difficult to understand.

I’m not sure that tree is even straight – mind you …

On Friday afternoon he came home from work early so that Auntie Zena, Daddy Richard and him could go up to the church and decorate the tree. I went along to give them a helping paw but, to be honest, I got a bit bored. I did try picking up a bauble, but that was out of my mouth in about 10 seconds flat! I dragged him around the church a couple of times to look at the other trees but, quite honestly, I find looking at trees a little boring … unless they’ve got a squirrel up them! Because of my hip problems I grew up by learning to wee without cocking my leg, so I can’t even wee up them! We seemed to be there for hours and hours and hours, although he claimed we were only there for about an hour. When we left the church they started to walk towards the top of Bay Pond Path … um, I don’t think so! The churchyard has a whole host of rabbits, squirrels and other species that I might be able to chase. Not to even mention the rabbit poo that I might try and eat. Walk towards Bay Pond Path? Not until I’ve dragged them round the churchyard!!!! When we had done a circuit of the churchyard Daddy Richard got in his car and went off – he had brought the tree and decorations to the church and was going off shopping for food for their dinner (yep, he’s still at it – trying to do that cooking lark – I don’t know why he doesn’t just stick to kibble and the odd rabbit dropping!), so I walked back with Auntie Zena and him.

I ran and ran everywhere! I had the bestest time ever!!!!

And so finally, we got to this morning. They weren’t out of bed particularly early and so, when they were finally up I got them to have a quick breakfast so that we could go out. Mind you, I didn’t count on getting in the car thingy but we did. I can’t honestly say I was all that happy about going out in the car thingy but since I knew we would be going somewhere nice, I put up with it. We were only in the car thingy for a few minutes thank goodness and then we were out. Oh my woof, it was wonderful!!! It was flamin’ cold but I soon got warm running around. Yes! That was running around! We went to Manor Park in Whyteleafe. Almost as soon as we were out of the car thingy I was let off lead. I had an absolutely fabulous time! I ran into the woods and out in the open spaces, I met other dogs and ran with them, I ran up and I ran down the hills, it was fantastic! The first time I have been allowed to run around since before my operation. I loved it! It wasn’t until we were almost back at the car thingy that I went back on lead. We timed it perfectly too because on the way home it started to rain and it hasn’t stopped since! So what a week – there’s been twubble but there’s been some fabulous times!!! But now, what I need more than anything else, is a quick walk around the block so, for now, must paws … ????

Dear Monty
Thank you for your most interesting glog. Sorry to hear about all the “downs” but pleased that you have at last managed to have a good run off the lead. Just a word of warning, I would avoid eating any rabbit poo just in case it upsets your tum!!!!!
Sorry you found the Chrismas trees in the church rather boring, we will be going to have a look at them all one day.
Anyway we hope you have a fantastic woofing Christmas and please send our very best wishes to Daddy Richard and of course “him”
Love
